How THE Disc Jockey came to be!

 

The first discotheque to use records as entertainment was “La Discotheque” in France in the late 1940’s.  The first U.S. discotheque, “Le Club”, opened in New York in 1960.  In the mid-to-late 1970’s, the Disco Boom began replacing live bands as the most popular form of entertainment at most night clubs.  This change kicked off the explosion of Mobile Entertainment, the most affordable type of entertainment available.  Mobile entertainment is a very flexible concept and adapts to any style of music, diverse market segments, live entertainment and future trends.

Pro DJ’s began providing disc jockey services to the Chicago area in 1979.  For the next 10 years, under the original owner, Pro DJ’s used a simple philosophy... “provide great customer service and disc jockeys with personality”.  Pro DJ’s became the largest mobile disc jockey service in the area.

 

¯ Focus on your strengths...Let’s repeat the good thingsPro DJ’s has always been one of the few mobile DJ companies in the Chicago area to have a full-time staff with a structured training program and an operations department to assure the highest quality and consistency, an objective that could not be met by others.

 

¯ The wedding client wants a one-stop shop...Expanding the services.  The customers economic benefit of using recorded music at wedding receptions became very obvious to Pro DJ’s in the 1980’s.  Essentially Pro DJ’s became wedding consultants that provided a customer service team to support their clients needs so that they could get what they wantedPro DJ’s soon began expanding their services in the wedding market; i.e. Wedding Consultation, Videography, Photography, Limousines, Invitations, Balloons, Flowers and more!

 

 

E.S.G. ON THE FLIPSIDE….”I CAN DO THAT”

 

In 1972 the current owner, Richard Zachary, created Bozak Disco, a mobile disc jockey company, in northwest Arkansas.  From 1972-1980, Bozak dominated the adjacent corners of Arkansas, Missouri and Oklahoma providing disc jockey service with live drum accompaniment.   In 1980, Richard, a graduate from the University of Arkansas, decided to leave the state to begin his professional career.

 

¯ The Learning Years...During the recorded music BoomFrom 1980-1987 Richard joined Stuart Anderson’s Restaurants performing, training and finally as entertainment manager of 43 of the companies 120 operations. He managed 72 disc jockeys and 6 DJ trainers in 10 states.  In 1987 he joined Christ Hospital as a consultant for a new restaurant concept being developed, Trellises.  In 1988-89 he joined an international restaurant chain, Bobby McGee’s, USA, Inc. as entertainment manager of 22 operations in the U.S.   He then returned to the Chicago area with a national fast food chain, TCBY, as a division manager for 30 operations in the Midwest.

 

¯ Back to the Mobile Industry!  In 1991, Entertainment Services Group (ESG) was born and began providing disc jockey, karaoke and event planning in the Chicago area.  ESG’s philosophy was very basic... ”assure the Entertainment Customer the utmost in quality customer service, equipment and personnel with no surprises.”

 

¯ Time to share...”teaching is the best way to learn”.  In 1993, Richard was offered the opportunity to teach at Columbia College Chicago.  For seven years he shared his experiences with interested students in the “Club DJ” class on how to be a nightclub disc jockey.

On June 11, 1996, Pro DJ’s, Inc. and Entertainment Services Group (ESG) merged.  From small parties in the home to wedding receptions and large corporate functions, ESG & Pro DJ’s can provide you with all of your entertainment needs. ESG & Pro DJ’s mission statement is…”give the client what they want through great customer service, professional equipment and talented personnel with no surprises! ”  We feel that providing a customer with this type of support will only give ESG & Pro DJ’s the reputation of  having the highest quality product and service that every entertainment client should expect.

ESG & Pro DJ’s is divided into three departments; Sales/Customer Service, Operations and Talent to provide the best customer service.

 

¯ Sales/Customer Service Staff specifically trained by the General Manager to be knowledgeable in all event areas and to listen to our customers concerns.  Customers will receive immediate response and have all questions answered thoroughly.

 

¯ Operations Department focuses on honoring our customers’ requests and needs, specifically talent scheduling and music selections.  The details of every party is carefully reviewed and executed to meet the clients’ expectations.  We have also developed an Emergency System with our clients’ needs in mind, which includes back-up equipment and disc jockeys on call.

 

¯ Talent Hosts are mature professionals with strong, but friendly personalities, excellent microphone skills and an exceptionally strong knowledge of all music types and eras.  Our Hosts will be dressed in accordance with your specification; tuxedo, casual, contemporary, promotional theme, etc.  Disc jockey and karaoke emcees are specifically trained in the technical areas of mixing, programming and performance highlights.  They are also trained in all party formats so they may cater to the specific needs of the event, whether it is a wedding, corporate party, Bar Mitzvah or a casual picnic. Understanding what the guests want is the type of customer service our clients expect from their disc jockeys.
