In the late 1970’s, KARAOKE began in Japan. It was introduced to the U.S. in the early 1980s using the 8-track tape source. This entertainment was mostly in the Japanese restaurants and sushi bars on the West Coast where there was a charge of $1.00 to sing a song of your choice; thus, creating value added entertainment to their customers who wished to linger after dinner. In the late 1980’s karaoke remained in the back seat while the popularity of LIP SYNCH contests increased in the night clubs nationwide. Lip synch required performance, not musical talent. At the turn of the decade, karaoke finally got its chance. Most of the time considered a fad, karaoke has exploded into night clubs, pubs, mobile entertainment and home entertainment.
